What do I need to run DoD smoothly?

I've been playing Counter Strike fine for almost 2 years now, and just recently started DoD. My computer runs CS fine, but lags horribly with DoD.

My specs are:

2002 Sony VAIO PCV-rx740

Processor-- AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4 GHz)
RAM installed-- 512 MB DDR SDRAM (256MB x 2)
Cache size - type-- 256 KB L2 cache
Hard drive-- 60 GB Standard

The only upgrades I've done is a new 512MB stick of ram, putting me up to like 730MB ram total.

What else would I need to atleast run this game smoothly?

Thanks.

PS: mods if this is in the wrong forum, please move it.

 ok for starters you have to have something wrong, something must be configured wrong or you dont have the right specs, becuase my brothers P3 750 mhz, with 128 RAM runs Half-Life, Counter Strike, and Day of Defeat just fine.............you might be on the wrong video settings, try to run it on OpenGL, or direct 3d

ok thats messed up cause i know for sure that in my computer electronics class there are some kids playing on 700 mhz athlon systems with 128 MB of RAM, and they dont lag at all so i dont know what to tell you, might be a crap version of DOD you downloaded

Never played the game so I would not know what system would be best but wanted to ask :-) Have you installed all the latest drivers?
