What do i need to view tv shows/movies

Um well i guess the title says it all i want to view television shows and movies on my computer but whenever i try to watch them with windows media player or the divx player its either all black with sound or thousands of green lines across the image with sound. I am guessing this is a codec problem but i figured that with my video card it should have no problem showing the image. It shows a proper image of dvd's and has no problem with that just on mpegs and what not...thanks again for the help guys..

how are you watching those?

through a capture card from your tv? or backup copies?

its most likely a codec problem and that is something you have to download. it has nothing to do with your video card.

you need a tv tuner. sometimes they come on video cards, but they sell seperate cards that have tv tuners and also rca jacks (in or out) to record videos from a dvd player or vhs player, or play videos on your tv.
you can basically do anything with a tv, and a computer with a tv tuner. its really basically like dv-r.
