What do you guys think of this PC

I just bought this PC and would like any opinions on it from you guys. They have a 30 day, no questions asked return policy so if I made a mistake I can take it back.

I'm looking to use it for gaming, starcraft ii, crysis ii, etc. All the popular games I'd like to be able to play at a decent setting. If this desktop is a total rip off then I think I'll take it back and build my own.

So the build you posted in that thread will be a lot better then what I have? If it is a big difference I will build my own.
 
5870 >>> GTX 260. Or get 5850 if you want to stay within $1500
In most case, 6 GB RAM would be enough, you would not obtain great gain from 6GB to 9GB RAM. Also, the G.skill I listed is DDR3 2000@$200, you can get cheaper DDR3 1600 @ $170. But both faster than DDR3 1066.

CPU - some ppl mentioned microcenter have offer on core i7 920 @$200. Check that out at your local store.

I have no idea what inside Alienware, but for those brand I listed are with good reputations.
 
Hey, check out newegg.com, they've got lots of good offers on computer parts and I think you can easily compile a better computer there for that kind of money... As I am from Sweden I can't shop there so I'm stuck with the expensive crap that they sell here x)

Ye 6Gb is enough indeed, 5870 is teh shit and I would suggest the 930 if it's equally priced as the 920, otherwise go with the 920.
 
And since you apparently have access to a Microcenter, I just bought an i7-930, at the one in Cleveland yesterday for $215 after tax. Feels like a pretty nice start to my first build.
 
Definitely build your own, for $1500 you can make a better build. Like daisymtc said, 9gb RAM is kind of overkill, 6gb would be just fine for a gaming build.

And if you're planning on playing the latest games on decent settings, the GTX 260 is not very future-proof. I'd recommend the 5870 or even the 5850 over the 260.
 
Bad news for me, they charge a 15% restocking fee. From talking to the salesman I was under the impression that there was no restocking fee within the 30 day return window, but it was a miscommunication.

So, if I return this, I will be only getting about $1275 back. I think I'll be better off keeping it and just upgrading the video card when the need arises. Is this a good idea? What's bad about this desktop besides the dated GPU?

Also, I don't understand why everywhere I look it says the GTX260 has 896mb of memory but apparently on this machine I have 1792mb?

As far as I know, the GTX 260 is only an 896 MB card; when they say "up to 1792MB," I'm assuming they either A) are referencing shared memory with the RAM, or B) they got mixed up with the GTX 295 :P

I would say the build is not too bad for the price, but concerned about what type of RAM and motherboard is running in the system...
 
Well when I go to screen resolution > advanced settings it says...

Total Available Graphics Memory: 5376 MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 1792 MB

Can this be inaccurate?


As for the ram and mobo, anyway I can check without opening the case up?
 
For what you paid you could have build better like mentioned,But if i was you id actualy stick with the 260 for a while...it should still be able to max out most games in DX10......DX11 cards atm are over-hyped imo,When you do side by side comparisons they dont look much diffrent,well i certianly couldnt see any diffrence between BC2 in DX10 & 11 Shots.

Wait for the 5870 or 480 to become more reasonable price then upgrade :)
