it was the best i could piece together around 2000. I didn't put a ton of work in looking for combo deals, but newegg is awesome with shipping and alot of my pieces have mail in rebates. let me know what you think, or if you can piece together something much better for around the same price, please help me.

I'm torn between the phenom 2 and a core i7 920.but i found a sweet core 2 quad deal at tigerdirect. but im pretty set on getting the gtx280's since the bfg are cheap and the memory bandwidth is pretty appealing. so now ati for me.

Go for Core i7...

Intel Core i7 920

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R

OCZ XMP Ready Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ3X1600LV6GK - Retail

GPU: How about GTX 275 SLi?

as far as gtx275, why would i spend about the same amount for less video ram at a lower bit? 280 has 1gb 512 bit, 275 has 898mb 448 bit. relatively the same price between the two

i didnt think id find a core i7 and mobo for about that, along with that ram? thats pretty cheap!

looks like with core i7 my total would come out to $1,752.89 before shipping and rebates. i like that.

so with your changes, anyone have any revisions?

also, will the corsair 750w psu be powerfull enough for the i7, v8 cooler, 2 tb harddrives and 2 gtx280's? WITH room for my buttload of fans?

Ammm... I am not sure about the performance between SLi GTX 280 vs Sli GTX 275.
But from what I have seen for the benchmark with GTX275 and GTX280, their performance is very similar. The GTX 280 is at $280 each, while the GTX 275 starting from $240, you would save $80...

PSU, I think the 750W should be alright. 850W PSU is extra $20, worth considering

I would go with the GTX275 also, its 55nm so runs cooler also. Maybe even go with the 1792mb Version of the GTX275. For Memory+Mobo though i would recommend this:

Memory:

Mobo:

Since you plan on SLI i would recommend this psu:

Possibly HDD's(Western digital's rma is much better if you encounter problems):

GPU:

This cooler is pretty much as good for cheaper:

well the 1792 mb version of the gtx275 is over 300 bucks. i think im pretty set on sticking with the gtx280 unless the gtx275 overclocked can beat a gtx280 overclocked. the memory is pretty appealing on the 280 tho

if its not likely the 750 watt will be plenty of power, ill get the 850

and i love my v8 cooler i have now, im pretty set on getting another. its fecking amazing. haha

but that board looks nice, but why the ram over the ocz? its around the same price range

thanks for the harddrive suggestion. think those are better than barracudas? ive had the same barracudas in raid-0 for about 5 years now and they still work great, ive just had excellent experience with them. has seagate changed how well the barracudas are made, or does western digital simply surpass them these days?

The 7200.11 drives had alot of firmware issues and just problems, not sure how well the 7200.12 have remedied the situation, and if there is an issue seagates rma sucks. That memory is better than the ocz imo, as the ocz ddr3 had alot of compatibility issues when it came out, and overall the g.skill is better memory;) And overclocked Gtx275 will be around the same as a GTX280 with the added benefits of less heat/power consumption.

well i pieced in that msi mobo, the 850w psu, gtx275's from xfx, gskill, changed my mind about the nzxt tempest and decided on antec nine hundred v.2, and the western digital drives. $1,748.89 before shipping and rebates. not bad :)

gah now i just cant wait to get paid!!!!
