My only comment is that why are you buying a dead socket? Get a 1155 socket I would suggest an i5 or i7 as it will have a much better video transcoding performance. The graphics card is irrelevant. I have also heard bad things about the H55 chipset.

Haha I didn't even realize the 1156 was dead. That's why there were so few mobos to choose from :D
Forget the H55 then. How about the Asus P8H61 Plus ?

Regarding the CPU, an i5 or i7 is a bit overkill and my friend's on a low budget.

Yeah, budget is an issue, but the i5 would be better. Look for the P67 chipset, see my rig, oh and ensure its all the B3 revision.

LGA 1156 is dead!!!

Go for AMD phenom IIx4 or Phenom II x6 instead. Quad/ Hex core would be better for editing then dual

ASUS M5A78L-M LX AM3+. This allow upgrade to AM3+ in future. And you can run Hybrid CrossFireX with 4550

HDD - why choose WD Caviar RE4 500? They are expensive...

Thanks for the input but she's happy with the E6400 build I gave her except it is now defective so I really don't think she needs a quad core. I should have mention her use of Photoshop is pretty basic. I'll tell her it's been suggested tho :)

I don't wanna skimp on the mobo but the Asus P8H61 Plus has the B3 revision and is dirt cheap. What's the advantage of the P67 chipset ?

Yeah I'm not sure about it either. I'll probably go with a cheaper model.

Thanks for that but like I said my friend doesn't need a quad core and also I wouldn't make her buy a Phenom II x4 just because of the extremely loud cooling system.

loud cooling system??

Are you sure that is come from CPU heatsink?
It could be case fan.

Anyway, if you want intel, go for H61 + core i3 2100

Never heard something that loud coming from a computer. And yes it definitely was the heatsink since it disappeared when I replaced it with the Noctua.

Interesting stuff bigfella, thanks!
Do you reckon it's possible to have both the embedded HD Graphics 2000 & a PCI-e GPU running at the same time ?

Not sure mate, I would suggest they cannot be run hybrid though. You can install both with no issues though.
