I was over at another person's house. A person who lives at the house was downloading a bunch of "free" music. There was likely malicious software in the files he downloaded (unless the malicious software was already in the operating system).
What I saw on the monitor was cmd.exe black boxes popping up on the desktop. I attempted to run System Restore to a point three weeks earlier in an attempt to clean up the Windows XP system registry.
While running System Restore the progress was frozen. After a few hours the computer was rebooted and now the computer will not boot to an operating system. The only way I see a fix on this computer is to do a fresh install of Windows XP. Unfortunately they have no operating system disc.
