I recently won an auction on ebay for 2,STICKs PC6400 2GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM 240Pin .I recieved 2 sticks of ram with pc2 6400 ddr2 sdram 266mx64 2gb on the stickers. The sticker on the ram sent to me does not say 800MHZ and I don`t know what 266mx64 means so I don`t know If they sent the ram they advertized. Anyway it is supposed to be a total of 4 gbs of ram but only shows 3gbs on my computer when I install it.Now they want a restocking fee if I return it.I think I`m getting hosed bt for starters could someone tell me what the 266mx64 means. Thanks for any insight

not sure about the 266m, but the x64 will probably be showing that, like every other type of RAM, is is 64 bit.

What is the brand because it may be the product code, or is it just generic memory?

If you have a 32 bit operating system, it can only use 4GB, but itwon't show 4GB. It will show total memory-video memory, so if you have 1GB video memory on a 32 bit operating system with 4gb of memory, 3GB will be shown, if you had 512mb vieo memory, 3.5GB would be shown. You get the gist, it is there, but used elsewhere.

the 266mhz is the base clock. the base clock is multiplied by a number to get a total clock. example of how this works:

266 x 3 =798 (mhz)

there is your 800mhz, but it isnt exactly 800mhz because of the way the numbers add up, and 800mhz sounds nicer than 798mhz

it's the same mechanics as a CPU: a base clock multiplied by a number to reach a total clock.
The base clock is called the FSB with a CPU.

give us the ebay link

the "M" probably means Mobile as a Google search for "266mx64" brought up an ebay.it link for laptop memory. I'm not familiar with laptop memory but it looks like you purchased desktop memory and received laptop memory instead. Possibly a German specification? The 266 in the spec probably means its 266 base clock and 533 rated clock.

thanks, something is definately funny here, when I do a google the only reference I can find to the numbers 266 on memory also mentions mobile. These jerks I bought from are saying I ordered the wrong ram but the listing says desktop ram.I did a check with PC WIZARD and It recognizes 4 gb but all other programs see only 3 gb.Out of principal I would like to get to the bottom of this,I`m posting the PC Wizard specs in hope that they will tell someone something, any input would be sooo apreciated thanks....
