What does a MoBo offer in features?

How do I determine what a MoBo offers in features such as having an on-board video or not, and if it has, what are its specs?
In general, how do I determine the difference between MoBos? What is important, what is not?
What is a North/South bridge? And how can I find out more about them?
I know it is a lot of questions, but I like to learn to understand how to read specs on Mother Boards and their features.
 
depends on budget, however onboard, sata speeds, and usb speeds are probably big selling points as well as PCI-e slots available for expansion, the latter is more important to enthusiasts than the former.
