It seems that no matter what I do, I cannot download WMP 11. When I come close to it, it says something like media player download was no successful. The it goes to ystem restore and my laptop starts up with only the desktop photo and curser for a minute or two beofore everything else loads. Appearently, I need to download Rollup 2 or something like that which I can't.

In Outlook Express there's one security setting of "don't allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" in the tools>options>securiy section. Sometimes having that checked will cause problems when downloading with IE.

I hate the look of WMP 10, I like the look of WMP 11 a lot more, maybe if I can install the WMP 11 skin. Does anyone know where or how I can get that. I'm gonna try copying it from this computer. Probably won't get any luck since I'm down on my luck lately but it's worth trying.

WMP 10 is far more reliable in XP since 11 is too Vista orientated. If I toss in an audio cd isince I use PowerDVD for dvd movies I'll have the screen saver going at full screen and never worry about the player's skin. WMP is a download you can easily save to a folder. But it still will want to connect online while you are setting it up since the default is an MS music page.

you should just be able to download it from the website, not upgrade through the player itself. If you can't get it from Microsoft's website, I would search for it on google by looking up something like "windows media player 11 full installer" or "download windows media player 11" and get it from a site that is not run by microsoft. Should work out for you okay. I didn't have any problems installing it, but I do agree with the others that WMP 10 is much better and easier. I find that it is easier to organize everything than in 11.

Here I first tried the beta and then the full version of 11 and dumped it fast since you can no longer anchor the menu bar for going back and forth from now playing to the library or going into the options when you want to. WMP 10 finally saw the much needed support for a large variety of video files types without a need to chase around for codecs as seen with previous versions.

Must be a newbie. But I'm not touching that one! :P

Here for downloading and later installing if not immediate I create my own custom storage folders for updates as well as system tools and other items. For WMP I simply download the full installer and then run it later if needed like in the case of a need to reinatall Windows. You can do that easily for 11 as well as 10 rather then trying to update while WMP is running.
