What does monitor software do?

I just bought me a new monitor and it has software that comes with it, just wondering what the software does? I don't have a CD/DVD drive installed and I can't be bothered installing one just to find out what the software does.

My first LCD monitor had software too but I never bothered to install that software either, so far everything seems fine anyways.
 
That depends on the type of monitor. Some may have special drivers for special functions - i.e. a monitor with a built in orientation sensor (landscape/page view). But, most monitors do not need any special software. Thankfully that is one piece of hardware that is truly plug-and-play.
