What Every Computer Should Have

Just out of curiosity, what kind of stuff do you, personally, feel everyone ought to have on their computer. This can be hardware, programs...whatever.

TIA

Beyond the required hardware and operating system, there's not really anything the every single computer needs to have. If you aren't on the internet (hey it could happen) you don't need a browser or any utilities to keep your computer free of all the little suprises that comes with it.

Office might be the only thing that everyone should have. Even that not necessary as most computers come with an alternative package installed if they don't have office.

At least 256Mb of RAM and at least 2.0Ghz CPU......I have worked with a biz that has a Celeron 400Mhz CPU with 32Mb of RAM<They asked me to make this quicker, I made it quick to the dumps

This is great, and thanks. I already have some of the stuff mentioned...some I've never heard of. I'm intrigued.

Keep the posts coming. : )

PC wizard lists cpu temp as 35C and core 1 @ 52C and core 2 @ 51C ? I don't think this is accurate.

I would say in conjunction with Ad-Aware SE, also get Spybot Search&Destroy. Plus a good free AV like AVG, Anti-Vir or a long list of others that a lot of people here use... Beyond that, it really depends on your usage level and specialization... (If you like music, iTunes and Winamp are a must...)

In all honesty I believe that a good deal of money should be spent on the simple things

Keyboard and Mouse

Yes you can pick these things up cheaply enough but think about just how much you use each. A decent keyboard can prevent strain injuries, if you use it a lot ensure a decent wrist rest as used and a keyboard that comfortable under hand.

Plus think about how much you use your mouse, again having one thats comfortable may improve your usage.

well worth investing a few quid in something better :)

dude how well does that cup warmer work? ive been thinking about getting the cooler/warmer off ebay
