what exactly makes my pc run slow?

It takes my internet about 3 seconds to fully open. I have read that both HD and ram affect this. I have 4gb ram but dont have the best hard drive. What can i do improve this? Or do I just have old technology lol. I have a samsung hd103sj.
 
That won't be your issue. Probably stems from a slow processor or you have accumulated junk on your computer and possibly viruses.

What are the rest of your specs.
 
Is it just your browser or the whole pc is slow? You have a pretty good hdd, a 1tb with 32mb cache.
 
Any by fully open do you mean just to initially load up your browser or each webpage. Also what browser are you using?

Try a different browser like Firefox or Chrome to see if that's the issue. On one of my older computer Chrome would take forever to load for no apparent reason but Firefox worked fine.
 
im using chrome. I think its my ram. I tend to have a lot of stuff runing. would an upgrade from 4 to 8 make a difference.
 
So after you reboot your system and you are at the desktop and you open IE, it takes 3 seconds to open? What version of windows and what version of IE are you running?

I highly recommend to dump IE and download Pale Moon.
 
Lets see what running at bootup.


Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Vista and Windows 7 users must right click on the hijackthis icon and click on run as. If the run as option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key while right clicking on the icon to get it to appear.


Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

When the hijackthis log appears in a notepad file, click on the edit menu, click select all, then click on the edit menu again and click on copy. Come back to your reply and right click on your mouse and click on paste.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces
 
3 seconds really isn't bad. You will spend an hour trying to sort it for nothing, which is about a year's worth of IE run-time waits. Really a pointless post.
 
Chrome should open quickly, do you have issues with other programs lagging? How is IE? Same issue?
Since its a fresh install i'm guessing your not fragmented, try running HDTune error scan and benchmark, maybe your hard drive is slowly biting it
If its ok, updating bios and drivers could be an option. Did you get the newest drivers from your motherboard manufacturer when you reinstalled, or use the disc? or windows update?
4gb of ram shouldn't give you any major issues unless you're rendering video or something while trying to browse
