what good fan can i install to a asus p4sd-vl motherboard?

because my system is overheating so i need some good fans but i don't know what fan fits my motherboard so help?

Well its usually not what model motherboard you have but its your case that determines what fans you can put on. If you case have spare fan slots then I suggest you populate them if you system is overheating, if its just a generic or low ended case, then the best remedy in my opinion is to leave the side panel off. Its a quick, easy and FREE solution to any overheating computer. :P

Besides the board there you have to start looking at what is being used and how long for cooling the P4 cpu you have. The P4s run hotter then other models both Intel and AMD alike. If the thermal pad is now hardened up and giving out there are replacement pads that can be ordered but....

Zalman cpu coolers make the world go round! That and whatever additional cooling are things to look at. Have you monitored the cpu and system temps in the bios hardware monitor or what else are you using for that?

One word of caution is that some Zalman coolers are really heavy and they have disclaimers to say that they take no responsibility if it damages your board.

hmm i have no idea how you can cut off a case....
i monitored my CPU temperature at the bios. it is around 80 C at night it goes down to around 62- 67 because it is pretty cold here at night.

i don't overclock anything i just leave them as they are

although i am missing a 3 pin female fan power connector cable. maybe thats what i am missing.

i measured my fans inside my PC. both case and CPU fans are around 3.5 - 3.7 inches long and wide. so i am guessing i need a 88MM zelman fan???

what do you guys suggest??

That wouldn't be 88mm but 92mm seen on other makes as well as Zalman and Artic Cooling models. To be seeing 80C for a cpu temp and missing? a three pin plug suggests that the cpu fan isn't even running there. With no power for the fan you are fortunate the cpu hasn't cooked already!

The case fans come in different sizes like 80mm, 100mm, 120mm, and even one seen that is 250mm or 25cm on some cases. It depends on where you can order from and your price range? In the U.S. newegg, Coolerguys.com, xoxide.com, TigerDirect, mwave, and others could be pointed to. For a look one Zalman model used here, http://www.xoxide.com/zalman-cnps9500-led-cooler.html

i don't know i only see 3 fans inside my PC but when i run the bios, it says there is 3 FAN is one fan is not running ofocurse. i see all 2 fans are running i guess there is another hidden fan below the CPU fan.

my price range is around 30 bucks... but i will see how it goes when i got my power connector so i decided not to buy a new fan yet.

although i bought some copper ramsinks

one this one

and one of this one

and i have bought artic cooling x2 for my x1950 pro agp

what is a normal temperature a PC should be running at?
i took my case off and now its running at 63 C

thx!!!

If your fans are getting power directly from the supply they won't show up in the board's hardware monitor or any software which monitor's system processes. Most 3rd party addons even included their own fan controller. That includes the two 120mm Antec blue led case fans on the side cover here.

There's no other fan under the hsf itself except for any chipset cooler you have installed. The fan on top of the heat sink is used for the cpu since that blows away the heated air coming from the sink itself. The large 92mm fans seen on coolers like the Zalman and Artic Cooling models also help circulate air around inside the case. You certainly are on the verge of cooking something with those temps being seen.

errr i can't get the 3 pin .... i need 4 pin male to 3 pin female
i can't really find it. i found it on this website but they haven't shipped my order yet.

can you find any other good site that sells it??

what is a Thermal Compound????

does those copper ramsinks actually work?? i mean they look really nice i might put some on my motherboard to cool it a little

is Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu LED CPU Cooler good????
i am thinking about buying it

I bought that for the old build here when a Scythe cooler's fan quit. But it was too late to save the Socket A cpu there. Since P4s run much warmer you may want to consider the better cooling with the 9500 or Freezer64 Pro models over that one. The copper base seen on many supposedly works better since copper will transfer heat faster being a lighter material to begin with. The large fins made of copper do actually cool things down along with having enough air flow.

Surprisingly the additional of larger case fans does more then just a cooler by itself. When you cool the internal air throughout the case the cpu temps drop along with the rest! The thermal compound or "grease" as it is referred to is the material placed between the top of the cpu itself and the heat sink to conduct heat from the chip into the hsf. The better the grade like Artic Silver 5 with a degree of silver content the better the transfer.

i just found out my socket fan have a big heatsink on it. but then like the zalmans and artic i barely see any . i mostly see balls on zalmans is that better??

The stock hsfs for P4s had to be larger since those ran hotter then other Intel and AMD model cpus. The larger 92mm fans seen on the Zalman and Artic Cooling models do more then draw heat off of the cpu+sink. They also help circulate air around inside the case itself. Having large fans or adding them helps cool things down even more.
