Most of that was not needed. It mostly depends on your motherboard and powersupply. what are the brands and models of those? and how much do you want to spend on a graphics card?

how do i figure out my power supply?

I opened up my pc and the motherboard had a number it was "ms-7481 ver: 1.0"

also

i have a geforce 9400gt 1g bfgr941024gte and my power supply does not have the two little slots to power the graphics card.

http://www.amazon.com/bfg-technologies-bfge941024gte-geforce-9400gt/dp/b002fpiwwg

any way to put in or get a new power supply

also money to spend 1-100$
I think it gets its power from the pci slot in the mb that you put it in.

As bennyboy has said, your graphics card doesn't need any pciexpress power connections to power the card. Your card isn't a powerful one requiring extra power. The 9400gt gets power from the pci express slot.

A 9500GT but I'd rather get an athlon II x2 cpu, 785G mobo and 2gb of ram and stick on the HD4200 onboard until I could save up money for a good card. You can sell your old motherboard, processor and ram for additional funds.

I would normally recommend that also (maybe upgrading to an 800 series board and an athlon ii x4 with 4gb of ram) but sandy bridge and bulldozer are just around the corner.

So if you can put up with your current computer a while longer, you can either save money and buy new parts when they are out, or wait until they are released and get the previously mentioned Athlon parts for cheaper :)

Hang on hang on. That is an old computer. The supplied PSU was only ever designed for integrated graphics. Add its age, you cannot put a PCIe card in that computer without a new PSU. However, to be sure, please post:

  1. Power supply make and model. Take of side of computer and look at the sticker on the power supply unit.
  2. Please download PC Wizard from my signature, install it and run it.
  3. In PC Wizard, go to FILE, SAVE AS, click OK. Save the file anywhere (desktop is good).
  4. Paste the contents (along with the info from point 1) into this thread.
  5. What resolution do you play your games at. What size monitor.

Also, the 9400GT will struggle with MW2, however before you install the 9400GT, we need to check the output of your PSU to avoid damage to it or other components. To do this we need to know the info (PSU make and model).

The PCWizard report will give us the necessary info concisely.

But assuming your have a motherbaord that supports a PCIe card, i would strongly recommend Corsair430W PSU, which can be picked up at a bargain ($43). This is the minimum.

Yes he will need an additional 1GB of ram minimum however before he buys anything i want to check the specs. It may end up being cheaper to get a new computer.

These are the games that you wanted to play? Bro, I think you forgot that your RAM is only 1G... I suggest you add more RAM first and then we could talk about the video card later... ok

Nvm for MW2 I got an xbox 360 for that,

I'll just keep 1 gig ram just need better graphics card
