What happened here

I've had my newly computer build since last Thursday. It was going good and everything. Until lastnight.

Ever since it's been running, when I go to bed, I run Prime 95 and let it run until I get off the next day. So it's running for about 15-17 hours a day right now. Not a problem. So lastnight I decided to give my CPU a little oc lastnight. I upped the bus speed from 333 to 340. Nothing major or anything. Just a little something. Exited the BIOS, system shut down. WTF. Then started back up. Hmmm, okay maybe thats how it works. After it started up, the system just hung. No activity or anything. Reset the BIOS. Powered it up. Hard Drive can't be detected. Retarted it. Did the same thing. Tried the hdd in my other computer. It worked. Detected and everything. Even in the BIOS it was detected. Hooked the drive back to my computer. Still nothing. Tried a different SATA port, SATA cable. Nothing. Even the BIOS didn't detected it. Then I noticed, my DVD drive wasn't getting detected either. I then tried a different drive in my computer. Still couldn't detect the drive. While on my other computer, both drives were detected, while on my new one, neither was detected. Along with my DVD drive.

Are my SATA ports toast or what? Cause if they are, I find that very strange after resetting the BIOS.

Computer specs are in my sig.

Also I can't do anything with it. I even tried putting my Windows CD in and nothing worked. You can hear the drive spinning, but nothing would happen.

I wouldn't think doing that would damage the board or the drives... Have you confirmed the SATA ports and controllers are enabled?

I go home at lunch to try my computer. I left it off all night. I started it up. All it did was hang. Pulled the battery out once again. Put it back in. Nothing once again. Is it possible my BIOS has been corrupted?

did it boot up or just wont boot?

if did boot up then cant continue to windows

If it did that it would just say no boot device available. Hes saying he turns on his computer and nothing happens. Did you move your computer around at all? Could have knocked a wire out. You can get into BIOS right? or does it hang before that?

Yesterday when I got off work, I decided to buy a new battery for it. I know it's pretty early for that but you never know. Changed the batteries. Booted. And to my surprise it worked. I have the most weirdest problems known to computers.

Great. I am glad you got it fixed.

Alright. Now I have a new problem. When i'm tring to install something, I get the nice BSOD. Coming with with the Driver_IRQL message. This happened 3 times in a row. Each time when I was installing something different. I then fired up Prime95 for about half. Worked fine. Then I went to install something. BSOD. And each time it restarted, it just hung. I shut off the power. Waited for a min. Started it. Hung again. Pulled that battery out. Put it back. Started up. Like what is going on here. I'm going to run Memtest86 overnight, to see if my RAM is possibly faulty. I know my CPU is fine, since it ran Prime95 for 20 hours fine. Next is the RAM. Before I test that. I'll test my HDD. See if I can install the Windows tool, without getting a BSOD. Seen them enough tonight. I'll report back when done.

hi
I have the same thing that you when I o/c. just after entering the new settings in the bios, F10 then the computer shut down immediately, and reboot 3-5sec after. I think it's normal. (on a P5E)
I have the E8400 too and I did it work at 3.9GHz (434*9). The problem can't go from the CPU. and you tested it so it's OK for the CPU.
Your drive problem is very strange... after I read your 1st message I've thought at the PSU but now, your problems when you want to install anything...
The little owerclock you've done couldn't have toasted anything...
Continue to test all component. I think it's the best (and the only) thing to do.

sorry if I'm hard to understand, i'm french =)

Well I ran Memtest86 overnight and it ran for 7.5 hours, with 6 pass. No Errors. I also ran Lifeguard Tools for my HDD. No problems there. Now i'm leaning towards Windows itself, but i don't think that explains why it hangs after the BSOD. Or after I exit the BIOS, even without changing anything. I have no luck with these things sometimes lol. But when I get home after work, i'll reinstall Windows.

That sounds like a motherboard problem. You could have just got a faulty motherboard. I have had that and it will make your computer do all kinds of weird stuff, including what is happening to you. There are millions of little circuits on a motherboard if one is corrupt this could happen. I would buy a new one and try it, if it still does it you can always take it back.

Now that I think about, back when AMD Athlon 64 1st came out, I had bought myself a Asus K8V SE Deluxe. And this would also happen. The mobo only lasted a month. And this has been my 1st Asus since then. And it's happening again. I think i'll go with the mobo I was going with and that was the DFI X48.
