what harddrive should i get

What size do you need? $200 is a bit much for a hdd, no? I only paid $120 for my 750gb with 32mb cache. It's super fast and enough room for me.

I say cut your budget even smaller unless you want a Raptor drive.

if you want speed, get a raptor, if you want storage space get two 500GB drives. stick with seagate or western digital.

can i get both or do computers work like that if they do what happens

lots of people run a 10,000 rpm hard drive for the os and programs they run a lot and a 7200rpm for files and other programs but most people won't notice the difference between 7200 and 10000

^^ Page unavailible! Why would your pc run slow? Also, I recommend you get a hdd with 32mb cache and not 16mb.

It depends on what you're doing. I have a habit of stockpiling and archiving obscene amounts of digital media, and all of the computer games that I play are from like 5-10 years ago, so I spend my money on getting bigger drives instead of faster ones. People who spend most of their time benchmarking Crysis at maximum settings would probably swing for twin Raptors in RAID.

For everyday use, though, I'd go with those Excelstor drives. They're on par with Seagate and WD in terms of reliability, but are considerably more cost-effective. Two of those in SATA RAID will set you back only $70 for 160GB, which is better than a single Raptor in every category: speed, storage space, and price.
