please note that this computer build will have to last me 5 years least with out upgrading

Forget about 5yrs. in computer terms! The slight alteration of having the quad core cpu with the 8800GTS would last longer unless you wait for the impending ATI R600 series that seems to be outperforming the 8800 models in reviews seen. But the newer card and quad core cpu will cost. In two years time you may be wishing for something else however. Hardwares change at a much faster rate then OSs do.

does the new core2duo line with 1333fsb overclock just as easy seems like fsb makes a big differnce but im not that smart with processors i just look at comparison charts i might wait for the new line or get e6700 id get wat ever is best at a not high price

The 6700 is a waste of money. Just get the E6600. The 6700 doensn't provide any better (significant) overclocking gains compared to the E6600. Yes, the multiplier is a bit higher, but it doesn't make that much difference once you get to 9X

Go with the E6600 and a 8800GTS 640Mb, keep it for about a year and a half.....you can always sell hardware. It won't be that far outta date, but it will be outta date.

What would be wrong with buying a pretty basic up to date computer.
With maybe a Dx9 since....What game calls for an 8800...

And when needed, you upgrade.

Instead of buying the most expensive, 'current' hardware, to not upgrade for 5 years...

Point well spoken! Without leaving room for later expansion and upgrades you will find yourself in a bind fast. A good number of years have passed since a system was even somewhat a slightly behind current state in a 3yr. time frame. Those were the dos, 3.1, 95 days seen there.

The longest? The longest is how long you plan on running a game. The differences between the hardwares has more to do with performance. The quad offers the increased support for multitasking so background services will far less effect while you are running a game or some large application.

Core2quad Seems Like It Will Keep Up For A While But Sounds Like E6700 Oced And A 8800gts Will Last Longer

This Is Wat I Need It To Do Run Ventrillo/xfire Sometimes Run A Server And Play On It At The Same Time And Sometimes Just Play Battle Field 2 But When A Game Comes Out That Needs More Preformance It Seems That The E6700 Can Do It Wen Its Overclocked And Quads Dosnt Seem As Overclockable Since Im Not Spending Money On Water Cooling Only On A Zalmon Or Thermaltec

Besides The Preformance Of The 8800gts And 7950gt Are The Quality Of The Display Simuler Cause If They Quality Looks The Same And The Preformance Was Better Id Stick With The 7950, Man These To Things Are Swinging In My Head

Why do you capitalize every word? really annoying to read. The Q-series overclocks pretty well, I was reading about a lan where they had one up near th record! Granted with liquid nitrogen.... anyhow. I would get one 7950 and hold out as long as you can for a DX10 card. or an 8800GTS 640 now and an SLI mobo.

If you want to keep your system for a while, you'll need a DirectX 10 card because after 5 years, DX10 will no doubt be the standard while quad core probably will not be. Look at how long the transition from single to dual core has been. Even today, the majority of computer users use single core processors.

altough this has nothing to do with this topic

i have a pentium d 820 not oc for business use and its on 24/7 and is always at 50-55c whats a cpu cooler that will get it to 30c no load ii was think atic freezer pro 7 idn some thing that will make a big differnce at a not to high price max 40 with shipping or around there
