What is a normal number of processes?

A default install of windows XP Pro runs around 20 I beleive. I'd say around 30 to 40 is pretty typical, but upwards of 70 isn't too out of the ordinary... My Desktop right now with Firefox running shows 32 processes.

around 40, if you have above 50 then you need to check what else you aren't needing, if you have 60+ then you have a load of shit :P

my rule has always been 30 or less when my computer is idle with no other programs running. Isn't it terrible how computers come so loaded down with junk software these days. I just got a windows vista laptop with a dual core processor and a gig of ram that runs like it single core without enough ram. It had 63 processes stock from the factory. How can they get away with this, computers that are prebuilt come in a barely usable condition. WHEN WILL IT END!!!

30 is my max, when my computer is idle. like right now i have my im client open and internet explorer and i'm only at 28.
