What is best for wireless, the n-tech or to stick with b,g?

Hi, I need to know what to go with before I start buying. Im in an appartment building that provides wireless internet. The router uses b and g technology. However its not strong enough to reach my room. Ive been further down the hallway with a b and g laptop and get fine connection.
(I returned the laptop and will use a desktop)

Now my choice is to buy a new router and wireless adapter with n-technology or keep the b,g router and buy a b,g adapter.

Im confused because 8 out of the first 10 best rated wireless adapters with external antennas on newegg dont have n-technolgy. The same goes for routers. This doesnt give me a great impression on n-technology.

If I buy this popular b,g adapter: Zonet ZEW2500P MINI USB / USB 2.0, do you think it will work? I already had a the Tp-Link WN350G Wireless b,g adapter and it didnt work(the connection is too wweak)!

Should I go all out and buy a new router and adapter with n-technology? Im leaning more towards that. I dont want to get stuck with shipping fees for returning a any of these items so any suggestions are welcome.

As far as I know, there's still not set N standard. You may be better off waiting if you can.

Otherwise, there are some other options i suppose you could try. Rather than just looking for routers with external antennas, look for good ones with removable antennas and invest in a nice antenna. Much the same could be said for your NIC too.

Hi, no set standard for n-technology, what does that mean.
I ended up buying a nic with three antennas and also an attachable multidirectional antenna on top of that.

EDIMAX EW-7728In 32bit PCI Wireless 802.11n Draft 2.0 PCI Card
Rosewill RNX-A5-EX 2.4 GHz Indoor Omni-Directional (5 dBi x3) High Gain Antenna / Design For Wireless N 2x3 or 3x3 Solution/ ...

If this doesnt work with the g,b router will a router with n-technology help seeing that the nic Ill have is compatible with n-technology.
I hope this works, it will save me a lot of money and trouble to connect to my free wireless that my building offers

Hi Shuttle,

Wireless N is the newest wireless networking technology which has yet to have been ratified, so it is subject to change until then. However it should be complete by the end of 2009 and is unlikely to change much if at all by then. Wireless N provides better range and higher speeds assuming you have both a wireless N router and card. N is dualband meaning it operates in both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz spectrum's allowing it more range and speed. It's typical throughput is 144 Mbits compared to G's 22 and it's indoor range is 300ft compared to G's 150. I have Dualband N at home and I have to say it's pretty sweet. I always have great signal strength even when I go down the road to my park. I don't really know the reputation EDIMAX or Rosewill. As far as buying suggestions go I would hit up cisco linksys supposed to be good stuff.

N Adapters 69$-89$ USD

N Routers 130$-200$ USD

Used the filters to find N stuff.

Everything you could possibly want to know about IEEE 802.11 cough cough* WiFi :)
