What is Fibre Channel?

I just bought a hard drive and it seemed like it was a normal ata/ide cable but I just found out it has a fibre channel interface. What is this ?

It has something to do with SCSI I'm assuming after reading the articles? EXPENSIVE!

I just found out what fibre channel is.... any ideas on what to do with a hard drive thats useless without a $1600 card?
