this may be somewhat of an idividual thing but obviously the bigger screen the better. But a bigger screen is going to require more RAM(?)--I think or is it something else that is going to need more memory. hard drive. the bigger the screen the more something is going to be required.

It is an individuals choice but it doesn't require more ram nor a bigger Hard Drive. A graphics card that will handle the resolution of the new screen and ideally 32 bit colour quality is all thats required. Although 16 bit colour is adequate.

The size is up to you (you might want to get a widescreen one for movie watching, depends what resolution the movie is) and all you need is a decent graphics card.

IMO anything smaller than 17" is just obnoxious to use. 19" (normal or wide) is usually a good size and is still easy on the wallet.

Gaming takes up way more GPU power than movie watching. I have a 17" monitor at 1440x900 and it can run HD Quicktime movies fullscreen with an 8600GT. You can get this card for about $80.

It's more about resolution. My friend has a 19" widescreen monitor, but it's also at a 1440x900 resolution. It's mostly about screen resolution. But either way, an average graphics card should handle any screen.
