What is PCI Express 2.0?

Sure. 2.0 is a revision of the standard PCI-e bus, it doubles bandwidth through the bus. No card today can take advantage of this extra bandwidth, so the 2.0 standard is more a format of the future. Don't worry about it till a new build.
 
Like said above PCIe 2.0 just doubles the lanes bandwidth from 250mb to 500mb each direction over PCIe 1.1. Todays cards including the 8800GT doesnt use all the bandwidth of PCIe 1.1 and a PCIe 2.0 card will run fine in a PCIe 1.1 slot.

That doesnt make any sense, 250mb/500mb is not a measure of bandwidth, the correct speed for PCI-E 1.1 is 250MBps, and 500MBps for PCI-E 2.0 (not 250mbps/500mbps).

Where did I say 250/500? I said (PCIe 2.0 just doubles the lanes bandwidth from 250mb to 500mb each direction) You have a problem with me not including ps?

I know precisely what OMEGA was referring to there. It's not bandwidth but data transfer rate. You were saying 250mb when the full expression is 250mb per second(250mbps). 500mbps would be 500mb per second(500mbps). New cards for the type of biss are always backward compatible for use on older systems.

You know, according to Omega, you got it wrong. The little b in mbps signifies bits, while a big B signifies bytes. He was saying that stranglehold missed the ps, which is hardly something to complain about.. :P

An especially useful feature of PCIE is that it scales up with the addition of extra “lanes.” A connection from the shared switch to a PCIE device is a “link,” and each link comprises at least one lane. (Currently PCIE runs at 2.5Ghz, but will be ramped up to 10GHz in the future. The maximum theoretical bandwidth of a PCIE lane is 2.5Gbps.) A PCIE link with only one lane is an x1 link – add another lane, it becomes an x2 link, and so on. Each lane is bidirectional, can send and receive data simultaneously, and can provide 250MBps of bandwidth in both directions.

What do you think your data transfer rate adds up to (your bandwidth) and yea theres a difference in 1 megabit/sec and 1 megabyte/sec

You said 250mb / 500mb, which refers to storage. Now it's not only that you said 250mb/500mb, but the correct term would be 250MB/500MB. PCI-E 1.1/2.0 runs at 250/500 Mega Bytes per second, not Mega bits.

That is true, I just put mb. It should have been MBps. I guess there are some that could have took it the wrong way.
