My understanding of RAID
My understanding of RAID is this:
RAID 0 (also called "Data Striping") is when you have 2 hard drives
and when writing information to the disks, when a "track" is completed,
the write skips over to the other drive and continues writing on a corresponding track of the other drive. This way it's faster cause the drive doesnt have to go to the next track.
RAID 1 is where you have 2 hard drives that are "mirror images" of each other, meaning that when writing to one drive, the same data is then written to the other drive. The effect is that you always have a back-up in case of drive failure. The drawback is that it's slower.
