Kaspersky
AVG Anti-virus
McAfee
Avast
Norton Systemworks
Norton Antivirus
Panda Titanium Antivirus plus Antispyware
Symantec Antivirus Corporate
Avira
NOD32
Other?

well norton is out of the question, i heard that i refused to find 2 of the most common viruses.

McAfee isn't an antivirus program its more of a security suite.

Kapersky
AVG
Avast
Panda
Avira

are great from personal opinion,

and two more to add to the list

Fsecure and Sophos antivirus (but this is more or less a scanner)

Seriously Norton isn't as good as it looks, of course it picks some viruses up

but

i had norton AV 2005

picked up 3 viruses

installed AVG and it picked up over 300 viruses and 20 trojans

why dont people scrap antivirus programs and use the housecall on trend micro,

i think this is better because you dont have a AV program that reduces memory or CPUU (cpu usage). and also its automatically updated

I used to use Norton, it's a great program except it uses too many resources. I use AVG now since it's free and detects almost all of the viruses on my computer. It also has great real-time protection.

yea dont get zone alarm its not worth the hassle.

i dont mind MCAfee but if i have it on my PC then i only have enough Memory and CPU power to run Word apps and things like that, not Games (unfortunatly).

Hehe

My most favorite would have to be Avast! Home :) http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

It's very simple to use and has got many awards in the past. It's also quite fast at scanning the PC and has many settings. The great thing is that there are very frequent program as well as definition updates. It's one of the best AV software programs up there ;)

As far as detection goes either NOD32 or Kaspersky, without a doubt. Their engines pick up almost anything. F-Secure is also very good in this respect. I still get along just fine with AVG free. I think overall it's the best. It's lighterweight than Norton or McAfee, (which I won't even touch), and it's still effective, has updates everyday (norton once a week), picks up everything I've ever gotten, never missed a thing, and it has some basic features without weighing down the system. It also has a nice easy interface, nothing too complicated.

AFAIK from the reviews I read Kaspersky and Norton were the best ones in detection rate.

You can see the results here, they were taken on August last year.

I myself use Norton AntiVirus but I only turn it ON when I scan my PC, I don't have it ON all the time (turned OFF through msconfig).

I use Norton and it hasn't found any viruses. I used AVG to make sure it didn't miss anything and AVG came up with nothing also. I've tried using Avast but it really isn't user-friendly at all.
