What is the best CPU I could use with my motherboard

I Want to know what is the best CPU I could use with my current setup, and I dont want something that will work but wont be utilized to its full potential, I want something that Is the best thing I can use with my current setup.

System Specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Running At approx 1900Mhz

Motherboard: Asus A7V8X-X

Memory: 3GB(3X1GB DDR PC 2700 166mhz)

Graphics: Radeon 9800 128MB

Hard Drive: 120GB(80GB+40GB)

Software: Windows Vista Home Premium

I honestly think you are going to be disappointed with any more powerful processor that would work with that motherboard. The processing power you would gain would be minimal.

If you really want an upgrade look at a motherboard that would support a Phenom II Tri-Core or a Phenom II Quad-Core Processor with DDR3 RAM.
 
Thanks For Your Advise But Im Kinda On A Small Budget, I've Been Using This Processor For About 7 Years Now And I Think Its On Its Way Out, It Has Had Overheating Problems Since Day One And Now Sometimes It Just Kicks Off Without Overheating And It Makes Weird Noises.

The Only Reason My Ram Is Running At 166 Is Because One Of My Sticks Is It 166, Would It Be Better For Me To Take That Stick Out, And Replace It WIth a 333 Stick, Or Would The Difference Be Unnoticable?
 
7 years is several life times in the computing world. You really can't get anything more out of that computer, well, not that would be economically viable.
You're going to need to upgrade your entire PC (mobo, CPU, ram, psu, video card, etc), whether it be now or some time in the not too distant future. You're really better off saving your money and getting an entirely new machine. Even if it's just a cheap $500 budget PC, it'll certainly perform much better than what you're using now, even if you upgraded the CPU.

As for changing the RAM, it would most likely be unnoticeable. If you have a spare 333mhz stick lying around, then sure, put it in, but I certainly wouldn't recommend going out and buying one.
 
As the guys above said it would be better to upgrade the whole pc, but saying that your best cpu for your rig is the Athlon XP 3200+ with the code AXDA3200DKV4D, and ebay is the only place ive seem em lately
