If you're planning on using the video card for gaming and for workstation, buy a gaming video card. It doesn't even have to be a very nice one, but even a nice $5,000 workstation card will not play the games that you would want it to. Workstation cards are specifically designed for workstation, and the only reason to get a workstation card over a video card for AutoCAD and stuff is that the workstation cards tend to have more stable drivers. I was running Solidworks on my 8800GT with no problem, and there are tons of cards out now that are better than it. I run AutoCAD on some of the school computers that don't even have dedicated graphics cards and they still run fine. Look into a 4850 or a 9800GTX+. They're not the best, but you don't really need the best card on the market for workstation or gaming either.
