I'm looking into a virus/spyware protection, and need to know which is best to get. I hear different things and really don't know which to get. Can anyone help?

I recommend ESET NOD32 Smart Security. Works very good for me, blocks misleading websites, potentially unwanted applications, Trojans and etc. Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 would be also a good choice. If you want a free one, then I think you should use Avast or Avira.

I think I've tried avira or avast or something before, and I got a virus while downloading the virus protection. lol. I'm thinking about kaspersky, but not sure.

Those two (Avira and Avast) are very good virus protectors as well. You most likely already had the virus previously on your computer, or downloaded them from another untrustworthy source.

Here is the site to download Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
The link to Avira is already posted.

That's the only reason? It isn't much of a reason.
Perhaps a screen dump of all the things they must have:

Oh dear, I hope they don't sell off your email and personal info to others accidently !!

If they do 'accidentally' sell emails, they haven't mine. And I've had it for way over a year.
All you have to do is give them Email, Name (doesn't have to be real) and where you're going to use their product. That isn't much, and it's well worth the program.

Best antivirus and anty spyware

Hi,
You need 2 different software.
The best free antivirus is AVG antivirus. You have a guide & download
The best free spyware is Ad-aware spyware. You have a guide & download

Good Luck :good:

Avira Antivirus gets rid of all known Viruses, and some spyware (malware)

For Spyware and all other Malwares, you are best to use a dedicated program like free Malwarebytes

+1 NOD32 is very light and worth the money, plus it has a very high detection rate. it's my favorite of the dozen of so titles i've tried over the years.

I've experienced with avira and avg free, both are not to good for me, since I spent more time with internet, I use Norton Internet Security and it's worth.smaller and faster than previous version.

This could go on forever with many opinions. Its one of those things ya have to figure out. (free or pay). Pay is better, then what do ya like. i benched marked all. ran all the trials. Most the free will work. Me and what i do i pay.
Bottom line for me was Kaspersky internet security. might not be right for you. one thing i know. not one virus proggy will get them all. i tried. run this after buying and installed a trail. and found one. on the other hand ran the trial for 30 days and found clean. reinstalled the one i liked and also found 0ne. if anybody finds the purchase one that gets all. then let me know.
count me in..........

something else. One of the reasons for getting into trouble is using Google. (use it all the time). Ya just don't know where its taken ya. If im on the hunt for info at google or newsgroups and click or open i put up all shields. script controls are off. virus is up to date and malaware is working now.
