What is The Danger of Not Turning Your COmputer Off

Nothing!

Some people will attest that they get worst performance and some will say it doesnt make a difference... in reality it doesnt.

Mine has run constantly for the past 6 months only being turned off once or twice due to power outages. Ive had no slowdowns and zero problems with it.

^^^ lol you really wont notice much of a difference, at least i have not.

I have my desktop running all the time and a fileserver laptop and the extra electricity used is minimal at best.

Acutally, there COULD be a danger if you DON'T leave it running, but the chances are remote. It's called "Chip Creep". When the chips in your computer expand and contract, it tends to losen them in their sockets and they work their way out. these days, most of the chips are Soldered in though, so that's really not a big issue. I just thought i would throw that out there.

When you run 5 24/7 like I do it adds to the bill.

Thats an easy 1.5 kilowatt hour. That's 9 cents every hour here.
So about $65 a month just for the comps
And that's not including the power for the monitors. As little as they are on.

Oh Thanks!! I asked this because I was downloading a very large file. I wonder what will happen if I leave my computer 24 hours everyday. Thanks again guys. :):):):)

You're not downloading porn, now are you?.....I kid I kid

But anyways yeah, all you pretty much have to worry about (just like everybody else has said before me) is the bill.

It's also good to reboot your computer every few days to clear out the RAM. I personally don't believe it's good for a computer to leave it on for weeks at a time.

This kinda has something to do with this. Does holding down the power button on your computer hurt your computer? My friend freaks out when his computer freezes and he has to turn it off that way. And he gets all pissed because he thinks it destroys his computer... is this true?

Sounds similar/linked to thermal stress

i now have my computer running 24/7.

i reboot it twice a day. just for the sake of it. like so its fresh again, once when i wake up and again just before i go to sleep

^^ Well yeah. It kinda gets the OS into the feel by doing it every day or two. Sounds weird but, it if def true. I can speak from experience. Right now my pc has been on for about 3 weeks strait. LOL
