What is the difference between AMD and Intel, Nvidia and ATI?

What is the difference between AMD and Intel, Nvidia and ATI? I am making a computer for about $900 and i just want to make sure i make the right decision before i go and get the parts.
 
There are so many differences between them, i'm not even going to bother.

Basically AMD and Intel both offer high end processor, and both AMD and nVidia offer high end video cards.
 
imo
intel's best processors are better than amd's best processors, but amd has cheaper processors for the price
for 900 i would go with intel because you have the money to spend.

as of nvidia vs ati
i ALWAYS go nvidia
and you should to. they are basically the same principle as intel
nvidia's best cards are better than ati's best cards but ati's are generally cheaper for the power
but once again
u have money to spend
go for intel/nvidia
(well thats what I would do)
if u need suggestions for a build, just ask

yes the 3850/3870's were introduced to me by oscaryu1 and they are a good example of bang for your buck
but they still dont match up to 8800 even though they are much cheaper
 
Well it's a competition, and currently Intel and Nvidia are winning, but do remember that the AMD 64's/X2s destroyed the Intel P4's and PD's just a few years ago, and that AMD/ATI's 9XXX series were much better than Nvidia's FX5XXX series, especially with the flagship 9800's.
