I want to upgrade my cpu in my desktop to something higher. How big of a cpu can I upgrade to?? I cannot find this info anywhere. I currently have a P3 1.6ghz. Does someone out there know what the maximum size cpu I can upgrade to??

What else would I have to do to upgrade my cpu?

Well, first off, if you told us the model of the motherboard and computer we might be able to help. Secondly, the PIII series didn't think PIII's went up to 1.6Ghz, I thought they stopped at 1.4?

Yes, PIII's only went to 1.4. I assumed he just missed the 4 ^^;

Oh, why not use CPU-z and get some info for us? THat should tell us more about the processor and your RAM type.

Alright, I dug up a little info on the "El Paso 2" system. It's a micro-ATX motherboard with socket 478, and a maximum front side bus of 400MHz. I've found processors up to 2.8GHz for socket 478 400MHz fsb. You might be able to find faster, but just knowing the specs of your socket should give you a great boost. Good luck.

Pentium3s arent S478 tho
I know that Pentium 3's aren't socket 478; it's not a Pentium 3. Read the above posts, Pentium 3's don't even go up to 1.6GHz. It's most likely that the listing of it being a pentium 3 was a typo, seeing as they do make pentium 4's for socket 478.

Or that he missed the 3 and hit 6 and the CPU should really be a Pentium3 1.3 :)
