What is the problem??

Im installing a new video card. It wasnt working for some reason, so I was plugged into the onboard and installing new drivers and bios updates. When it finally was done, I plugged into the card, and nothing. The monitor doesnt even aknowledge it. If I go back to onboard, works fine. THEN, I use my dvi adaptor and plug into the dvi slot on my mbo (the gpu only has 2 dvi slots) and again the monitor doesnt aknowledge it. If I take the adaptor off and go back to the blue plug (whatever that is) it works fine. Also, Ive tried 2 different adaptors, and get the same problem. Is it my monitor? Is it just not compatible with dvi?
 
Hang on...what type of DVI adaptor is it? Is it like a DVI to VGA deal? Or DVI to HDMI? A better question would be to ask what types of inputs are on the monitor?
 
That would mean the sockets go the other way. Currently I have the female dvi and male 15pin, meaning the dvi goes into the computer, and outputs the 15pin signal.
 
Cybers right...they're made for VGA to DVI, not the other way around. The output would have to be VGA and the input DVI. That would be like turning a good signal into a bad one.

Your GPU sounds like is has Dual DVI Ports, Try plugging that adaptor into the Left Dvi Port (Default) And plug your VGA Monitor into other end of Adaptor.

I think you may have a Faulty GPU. Where did you Purchase from?

What model is the GPU?

When inserting, Make sure there is no gold plates where it plugs into the Mobo showing.

And firmly insert.
 
Ive got a 7900GTX, I got it from a friend. It hadnt been put in a computer when I bought it, came straight out of a box (it was a replacement under warantee)
 
Theres another detail you guys are missing; the same thing happens when I plug into the DVI on my motherboard. I can plug into the blue plug and I get onboard graphics, but if I plug into the VGI, nothing.

I think you guys are wrong on this one... You cannot physically use this adaptor the way you describe. It goes one way. You can just connect male sockets to male sockets, which is what you guys are saying. The dvi plugs into the mobo or gpu, and the VGA connect to the monitor cable. The VGA cant plug into the mobo or gpu, theyre the same socket (both male)

right now none of you people are making 100% sence here... you can convert the 15pin VGA wire from your monitor to DVI with an adaptor and plug it into a DVI port on your GPU/MoBo. i know this as fact because this what im doing right now. plz preread your post to make sure they are somewhat comprehendable(is that a word?):P
