What is the safest voltage for the core 2 duo to be at?

How high can I take the Core 2 Duo E6420 Voltage up to I am overclocking and am just wondering how high I can go before causing damage.

^^ No offense but i'm sure that didnt help him with his question.

Personally if you're asking for long-term use, I would keep it at or below 1.55V, simply because when you get around those voltages the temps get very high under load, unless you're using water cooling or very good air cooling.

But if you want to see how high you can push it, i've seen people raise them up to 1.9v, and being able to obtain speeds of 5.6Ghz and higher, and it was stable enough to run SuperPi (8s for 1M BTW).

It all comes back to this: Voltage does crazy things to a CPU. I would suggest you overclock without touching voltage. If you do, stay within 1.5V and you should be fine =]

I hope you dont mean you can raise it 1.5v higher then stock!

Overclocking without touching the voltage wont get you very far, but you certainly dont want to go crazy with the voltage. I still stand by what I said earlier, and you should be perfectly fine even up to 1.56V, but you will need to have some excellent cooling.

Well it got it overclocked to 3.4 GHz at 1.45v and it stays stable with idling temps between 32-35C and load temps in the high 40's and low 50's. Anything higher and it bluescreens and restarts I dont know why I cant get it higher.

3.56Ghz is a great overclock for an E6420. You ran a stress testing program such as Orthos I'm assuming, right? Because you cant say it's stable if you only boot into Windows.

I forgot to change my sig its at 3.4 but yeah I run a stress testing program Prime 95. Is Orthos better? I am going to run it later tonight for a few hours just to make sure it is stable enough.

Prime95 only stresses one core (unless you have two instances running). Orthos stresses both cores, and you can have it stress the RAM as well.

Ok I thought it was strange when I saw both cores only running at 50% usage in task manager. I am downloading Orthos now.
