What is thermal Paste and what does it do?

If you want "something better"? then Artic Silver the latest compound is called Liquid Pro that does seem to have a far higher silver content in it. They are rating that as the top compound to go with at this time. Of course the initial cost was twice as much as AS5 when first looked over. A "small" tube can be bought at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...TT=35-121-005&CMP=KNC-overturesmx&ATT=product for $9.99 at this time. Unlike AS5 it doesn't use any ceramic or any other non metalic additives.
 
I'm not gonna touch that stuff....AS5 for me. Too many bad things reviewed as happening with Liquid Pro.

The only time you would use AS5, Liquid Pro, or any other compound is either when first installing a new hsf that lacks a thermal pad like a 3rd party cooler or the original thermal pad is now wearing and you need to reseat the sink with either a new pad or layer of compound.
