What is this ? photo- Part of PC build I'm interested in

While reading PC build thread - I saw this photo that looks like a part I might be interested in for PC build.

It's not a sound card - what exactly is this - so I can look it up price / function / etc.

It is part of a sound-card there's another section that goes in the pci slot.
Let me find a price.
Amazon has one for around 200$

I'm not so much interested in a major Sound card as I'm interested in plugging my PC into my Home Stereo in a cleaner way. Right now - I have some RCA cables in an adaptor plugged into a Y adapter stereo headphone style jack. It sounds good - but I get a little distortion from the output speaker plug connector.

The RCA input looked interesting - but not 200.00 interesting. Any other suggestions? I can't seem to find anything like that on newegg. I was hoping it was a 20-50.00 option where I could replace my cheap headphone jack with a direct RCA connection
 
Your stereo got digital (optical/coxial) input? Your mobo might have a header for that, which means all you need to buy is the socket, or a much cheaper soundcard (than $200) with the output on it.

Also, turning down the volume, bass and treble on the computer, and letting your stereo do all of that will help increase quality.

No coaxial / Optical input. I'm running a 10 year old Sony and they weren't using those connections in a stereo back then. It's got a bunch of inputs and sounds too good to scrap - so I'm not motivated to replace it.

But there's a PHONO Button and DAT input I'm not using - I'm not using :eek:

I'll toy with turning down the Computer volume - hadn't paid much attention to that.
