I want to know how can I find out what kind of motherboard do i have on my laptop? from what i heard so far, the only way is to open up ur laptop and look at the name on the motherboard itself, is that right?
btw i have a hp dv9825

i want to upgrade my cpu and i want to know what bus speed my motherboard can support.
so open up my laptop and calling hp are my only options?

so i asked hp what kind of motherboard i have and they said INTEL mobile 965PM chipset based motherboard. http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=28116 this chipset fsb speed is 800mzh, but my cpu is t5550 and its fsb is 667mzh. did they make a mistake or am i missing something? im new to this so i dont know a lot

That means it can take up to 800MHz, anything less is fine too so long as it is the same chipset. They may have used one that is higher than the stuff you have because it may have been cheaper for another part to be maxed out. So, your mobo may have been cheaper than the ones they had with the same original RAM and 667MHz compared to the one you have with whatever RAM and fsb you have

I thought that you can't upgrade the cpu in a laptop. I thought that all you can upgrade is your memory and hard drive.
