What makes a gamimg keyboard?

Hey guys.

I recently started getting into my gaming, and I want to start geting gaming peripherals.

I understand the need to get a mouse (FPS games), as it reads better, and is smoother (missing no pixels), wired (no lag, but they have increased pollling rate)

What i want to know is, what makes a gaming keyboard?

As my keyboard is wired, it should have no lag...

So what need is there for a gaming keyboard (especially for ppl like me who dont use macros...)
 
Actually any wired keyboard and wired optical mouse will do in general. But I have this problem with any regular keyboard of wearing off the ASD key letters among all other most used keys. So I decided to get a true gaming keyboard that features illuminated letters instead of painted on ones. So I selected a Logitech G15 Keyboard, version 2 from 2007 with the amber lights and LCD info panel. It is a great keyboard. I don't really use the macro feature either yet but I'm looking for things in the games I play with the 6 macro keys that you can define in 3 sets for a grand total of 18 macros per game profile if you want to. As far as a gaming mouse I use a Logitech MX518 Optical Gaming Mouse. It is the best mouse I've ever owned and I'm on my second one and when this one wears out in a few more years I'd buy another in an instant.

so besides backlight illumination and the lettering wearing off (Ive not had that problem), is there no othere reason?

Cause i want to get a backlit keyboard (i dont need it, but its a nice feature) and I said i might as well get a good keyboard.

But my keyboard works well, no problems, has multi media features, wired etc

so i see no point.

but one thing i see with the razor boards is that if you press multiple buttons, they all register, so i guess thats a plus...
 
Pressing multiple buttons is a huge plus, especially in racing games.

My Microsoft 1000 Desk set does it, I recently bought a Logitech Keyboard that didnt do it, Driving whilst turning, and using nos / looking backwards at opponents is rendered impossible.

Simultanious Lock is a HUGE plus! :cool:

thing is, i havent really needed it.

Like i havent been stuck somewhere unable to do something as a result of that.

And i dont use WASD, i use the arrows. And the razer board puts tyhe Anti ghosting (multiple keys registered) around WASD, and not the arrows...



And as for racing games, i usually get them for Xbox 360.

i get FPS games on PC, and all others on XBox...
 
Yea, I see what you mean. But a "gaming" keyboard some have the option to turn off the Start Button key, which means if your playing than you hit that button on accident, you will be kicked out to your desktop. Well, for you, you don't really to worry about that. For the arrow keys, how do you manage? Since like all the reload is "R" and jump is usally space. Other than turning off the start key it's basically all flashy lights. I used a cheap HP keyboard for a long time. I have a Saitek Eclipse first version just for basically for the red backlight and the multi keys. (turn up, turn down, mute, and brightness lol)

i see no use for them. I prefer arrows as i wont press anything accidentaly, and i got enough buttons around.

Eg. prone - Delete, Jump - End, Knife - Enter, Sprint/Steady - Shift, Crouch - Ctrl, Nade, Flash, reload, switch weapon, fire and aim is on the mouse...

thats all i need for CoD4...

It hasnt failed me yet



So is that all that makes a gaming keyboard, Illumination, better paint on keys, and anti ghosting?

I use to use nothing but the arrow keys, but then I tried the WSAD keys, and loved it, everything else fell right into play, I then got a gaming pad, N52TE, and loved it just as much, and can't stop using it.

I strongly recommend the MX518 mouse, G15 Gen 1 keyboard, and the N52TE gamepad.
 
Dang lol you must have some flexible fingers lol. I also saw that the key height is something to look for. I don't know that's what some guy at my local comp store said.

For me it's size, it can't be longer than 20 inches due to my keyboard/mouse tray on my desk. Comfort, I like having flashy lights, makes it look cool. lol the multi-keys and the spacing for the keys. I love Saiteks but I'm going to probably get the RAZER tarantula or the Logi G15.
 
to me a gaming keyboard has to be nicely spaced out, anti ghosting (press more then 3 buttons at once) and comfortable. all those fancy lights and extra "features" arent really useful unless u actually use them.

Yes, absolutely true! It is much more exciting playing the game you wanted using a keyboard which has multiple buttons.

It gives a driving force to play even more!
 
i have the logitech G15 and it's definitely a good keyboard, but it's not something you couldn't live without. it has tons of keys for macros, the backlights are nice, the keys feel great and the keyboard overall has a great quality feel to it. the LCD is nice also, it has a variety of functions with more being available online. when i was playing cod4 competitively with teamspeak, i used the LCD to display who was talking etc. great product if you have the money, but if you don't you really aren't missing out on anything.
