What makes a good video card?

Hey there, I'm trying to upgrade my new computer's video card so it allows me to play games properly. Those games are mainly MMORPG games or Strategy games such as Age of Empires III.

My new comp uses only PCI-E slots, so I'm looking for a card that can run games smoothly and with great quality. Can someone offer a suggestion? Also, could you inform me of some things to look for in video cards: features, their advantages, and maybe the affects it has on overall performance as well as anything else I should pay attention to?

Do you have a budget? You should pay attention to the GPU clock, RAM clock, pixel pipelines, type of RAM(DDR, GDDR3, etc.), brand. Those are just some of the basics.
 
Total RAM and RAM speed, along with core speed and amount of pixal pipelines are the biggest to look into.

If you have the money, I would personally suggesta 7600GT It should be able to run any game fine, and IMO its one of the best bang for the buck cards availible, you can get them for a lilttle under 150$
