please , what specification should I order/customize DELL for a new desktop for HD video editing ? I have an old version of adobe premiere(2002)but I can get the new MAGIX or PINNACLE software too.......I need to know what PROCESSOR,CPU ,MOTHERBOARD,BUS,RAM,HDD RAID,
20''SCREEN,DRIVES,VIDEO CARD,FIREWIRE, SOUND CARD,OVERCLOCKING
I would like VISTA 64-bit but I heard that is incompatible with some of my old CD software, hardware, printer etc...... what's true about this?
What computer price should I expect?
thanks for your help

Hello piazza2!

To start, what is your budget? What sorts of video are you editing--home movies, or more professional style movies?

semi professional

Hi Jet
I have maybe 60 hours of family videos, made with 2 miniDV camcorders and 3 digital cameras of which one is HD , so maybe 10 hours of HD from canon G7
I want to select them, edit ,cut and put some effects , so not very professional work but I want allow myself to improve to semi professional eventually.I could spend $1500... thanks Jet

Hi, well, i would probably go for a quad core, not totally sure you software would utlize it, but it will come in handy, i would probably go with a i5 build, you could get it for around the 1200 range, that would be a good solid build.

About the vista, well it might not be compatible with x64, but it should be vista compatible, just because when ever a new os comes out the big name printer companies are pretty good at putting new updates out so itll run.

My bro has vista 32bit and hes running a 12 year old printer, its old as hell but it works.

are these computer specifications you wrote for me or it's your computer ?
thanks for your advice
anyway I might be leaning toward dell xps 630 3.0ghz chip.........1gb video graphic card.............and 4gb hard drive for when I could buy it in december ,,,but I'll keep learning before I get it thanks Jet
