What New Monitor should I get

I recently just built a new computer (with this forums help) and my wife want to keep the old one running so she can use it while I am gaming.

I don't play any FPS or racing games. I don't watch movies on it.

It will be used for games like EQ2, Civ4, Age of Empires...

I had a widescreen monitor at work and I hated it as everything was stretched(or squashed?) to the widescreen. I really don't want that. Is there a way to keep the windows ration the same as a standard screen?

If there is no way to do that what standard monitor would you reccomend at a $250 price point max?

Thanks

Oh ya and I am from Canada so the 2 onloine retailers that I know of are:

Your work's computers probably don't have graphics cards that support wide resolutions. Yours probably does. It shouldn't be a problem.

i believe in NEC monitors. i had one back 5,6 years ago.... a flat screen crt 15inch and mannn its hella sharp and superb quality! but then someone play with magnet and put near the screen.... the screen messed up and not clear.

i vote NEC for monitors.

You'll have no problem running any current resolution with your graphics cards, including all widescreen resolutions. There'll be no squishing or stretching.

I'd get the 22" LG if I were you, or the 19" if you're trying to stay under 250 CAD. Maybe get some more opinions though, I don't really know what a good deal is in CAD.
