What operating system should I use

I'm building a new computer but things have changed a lot since my last build which was 3 years ago, such as going from 32 bit to a 64 bit system. That's the main thing. Anyways I decided to go with Q6600 Core 2 Quad CPU and I'm not quite sure what operating system i should use with this 64 bit cpu. Should i stick with windows xp till they work all the bugs out of vista. Or should i get vista, but if i do get vista should i get the regular vista or 64 bit edition. I could really use the help since i'm dieing to build this new computer. The operating system is the last purchase i have to make. Thanks to everyone who posts to this thread.

if you are buying a directx10 compatible video card, go with windows Vista. if you plan to have more than 3GB of RAM go with Vista 64-bit. if you are having less than 3gb and not a dx10 compatible video card, go with XP 32 bit

New intense games will require DX10, Vista Supports DX10, XP doesnt so you will need Vista in order to play em. 64 bit Vista allows you to maximize your ram at 8gb if your Mobo supports, otherwise like Cleric said, 32bit will be fine for anything less than 3gb ram.

I just heard that there coming out with a patch for xp so you can use DX10 though. Plus i haven't heard very many good things about vista. Is there any other reasons to go with vista then DX10?

its not really dx10, its a dx9 patch that allows you to "use" dx10, but the performance for dx10 would be better with vista
