Is there any order that is best to put a computer togeather in. any other helpful hints about building would be great.

It is pretty all common sense when you have all the parts in front of you It pretty much comes to ya :).

You want to install CPU and heatsink/fan before you install the motherboard. Install PSU then Motherboard into case. Then install your drives (HD, Optical) then add in cards/ram etc.

assuming you have a case with a power supply alread inplace. usually the back plane where the ports are , make sure it is corrct. the mainboard , make sure nothing on the case is touching the bottom of the mainboard. HD then cdrom, then cables, double check all you work.

yes, u need to get case first

As for the way the post is worded we can assume all the parts are purchased and in front of the builder. That would be case, Motherboard, PSU (maybe already in case), Optical Drives, Ram, Add in cards (video, sound, etc.) etc.

So I think what is expected from the poster is something along the lines of the following.

- PSU (if not already installed in case)
- Install CPU/heatsink/fan onto motherboard.
- Install Motherboard into case.

The following can be installed in whatever order you like. It just won't make a difference.

- Install optical drives
- Install Hard drives
- Install Ram
- Install add in cards (video, sound, etc.)

Do note that depending on the cooler/case you may need/want to adjust the order so that you CAN install the parts :P (i.e., connecting the stability power rails to my mobo should be done before popping the VC in)
