lol me too!! My friend "converted" me from Windows to Ubuntu about 4 weeks ago. I'm loving Ubuntu... The interface is soo much easier, and it's always nice to have a change IMO. I'm on Hoary Hedgehog 5.04 :D

I do still have Windows on my main partition, but I can't remember the last time I logged into it...

And, it loads up soo much quicker, and yep, no more virus problems...

Here's a screeshot:

ya but arnt there alot of programs/games that cant run on it?

Linux isn't very game friendly, although it does support some games, like UT2004 for example. And for all the programs in Windows that can't be used for Linux, you can get very similar programs. For example, Microsoft Office, for Linux, you have something called "OpenOffice". And guess what, OpenOffice is very similar to Microsoft Office and it's free!

Linux shouldn't be used for games. I use it mainly as my cheap UNIX alternitive at home. And of course the 3D drivers for my x800 AGP are nonexistant. :D

For those who don't want to purchase Microsoft Office you can get OpenOffice for your Windows machine as well. Works great! Don't worry about transporting files either, handles all MS filetypes.

I use Vista Beta 1 for testing purposes and XP Home (Wish I had Pro) for gaming purposes. I don't have a virus problem because of my multitude of blocking programs. Kind of bad when you have an OS that needs a firewall, an AV program, and 3 Spyware-removal programs but it is a small price to pay for a clean PC. Also, it's kind of funny, if you go into Safe Mode in Vista, one of the options says Widows instead of Windows.

Why not? It's an OS... It can be used to play PC Games on... And you can get the latest drivers for nVidia, and I should imagine the same for ATI.

:)

I use win XP, win 2003 server EE, win 98 and i think my linux partition is still there somewhere, i dont use it that much. RedHat9 if anyone's interested.

LOL, i pretty much span most OS's that ever got released.

Was on XP Pro, lost data :(, now on XP Home (sucks!).

I tried RedHat 9 but it totally hated me and my computer equally. Couldn't get MadWifi to work, no wireless card support, :(

I really really really want to give Linux a try. But so far it has disagreed with me. It WAS super stable though...not a single hiccup.

I never really used to notice a difference between xp home and pro, but now i notice a lot. THere are many networking and utilities that i dont have access to in xp home.

exactly.

i cant connect to P: (local) or H: (my designated network drive) like i used to. now i have to map a drive and reconnect a boot up, and many other nonsese makeshift connections are present to get the PC working with my network. I don't even have to set up a workgroup anymroe which makes me feel like i'm just a stand alone computer now. i hate Home :(

If you want, I can help you out... I recommened the Ubuntu Linux Distro, it's very popular at the minute... If you are prepared to download it, i can sort you out with anything you need... And there are repositories you need to enable in synaptic (a software resource program) which gives you lots of programs and stuff... Ubuntu is very user friendly IMO....

:)

I gotta wait till i can get more CD-R's to burn it to. But yes, when i get it, I would appreciate some help. I got synaptics and madwifi and alot of drivers for my hardware on a CD, jsut with RedHat 9 none of them would install correctly. they were all .rpm or .gzr (i think thats the right extension) files so supposed to work.

With Ubuntu, when it was installing, it automatically configured my network and connected to my mum's Window's PC (host pc with internet connection) with no hitch's at all... So perhaps it was just RedHat 9....

Most personal PC's/Laptops = Gentoo/XP dual
Home Server = SLES9
Work Servers = Redhat AS 4
Web Servers = Gentoo

I love Gentoo - it is hard for me to get used to an rpm based distro again. It's not that I don't like Suse or Redhat, I've just become dependent on equery and etcat. And if you've ever tried to upgrade any binary based distro...

In all fairness, for most uses XP does a fine job. I still use it for Dreamweaver and Photoshop - and gaming. I never get BSOD's and it rarely crashes.

For anyone that wants to try Linux, Ubuntu is great! Fedora Core 4 isn't bad either.

here is my desktop not very gd

could mine be the same as ur like EG the barwith all ur progams and icons please

ubuntu rocks! i use apt-get instead of synaptics tho, apt rocks! for win machines i use XP Pro, but i also like 2k pro too, if need be.
