Well, there is a way to install the upgrade version, it takes a little longer than buying just retail...but it saves you $150 so an extra hour is worth it imo, lol.
  1. Insert the Windows Vista upgrade DVD in the drive and boot up off it.
  2. Click on “Install Now.” This will begin the installation process.
  3. Now for the main trick: Don’t enter your Windows Vista product key.
  4. When asked, select the version of Windows Vista you bought (don’t think you can trick the system--you can’t).
  5. Continue with the installation normally.
  6. When the installation has finished, access the DVD through Windows Explorer and re-run the setup process and carry out another installation.
  7. When prompted, enter your product key.
Now continue with the installation. You now have a working installation of Windows Vista.

Those above are for vista, but should work with windows 7 also.

Thats good stuff, but we don't "know" if that will work for 7. I think I will just buy 64-bit Vista w/ free upgrade to 7 coupon for $109

It will work. It's been confirmed. The did not "fix" it.

Microsoft knows about it, and they don't care obviously.

Actually windows 7 uses essentially the same installer as windows vista, its not going to be "fixed". I already have my copy of upgrade preordered;)
 
Wow, a new copy of the Windows 7 Operating System for $50. I got my Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit Operating System for $70 and thought that I was getting a great deal.

Anyone know when Service Pack 2 is going to be released for Windows Vista?
 
haha i had to uninstall my russian language pack. i was drunk one night and installed it. used it confused for like two hours and took it off, forgot i had it on :P
right now it's only for like the 5 more major languages, but i think it'll be universal soon.
