what printer to buy?! *Please help*

I've heard it all before that Canon is the best. End of. But the last two printers I had were both canon and both, although they printed beautifully, broke, sharing the same problem. They kept ripping the paper for no apparent reason. And although at all shops they tell me Canon is teh best, from previous experience I do not want to buy one (I think you will understand me here :]). However the second best printer (as claimed by the PC world staff) which is an Epson, is almost twice the price :( !

Any help/advice will be strongly appreciated!

Canon is not the best printer manufacturer. It's all solely based on opinions.

There are many other brands you can look into. Brother, Epson, HP, Xerox, Phillips, etc.

What is your price range and do you require anything? Like you want it to print atleast this many pages, networking? etc.

I'm using the HP D4160, it's great for a cheap printer. It prints 30 ppm black and 27 ppm color. The picture quality is surprisingly good.

i have a Brother MFC-440CN, i like it because it plugs right into my router and all my computers have access to it... without having to plug it into it's own dedicated PC... print and scan quality are satisfactory...

Don't forget the cost per page. Definitely look into that before getting a printer as well. If all you're looking for is a printer, and not an all-in-one, then you shouldn't have to spend more than about 100 pounds. Some good options around that price would be the Canon iP6700D, the HP D7360, or the Epson R380.

The Canon has the best resolution out of the three:
Canon - 9600x2400
Epson - 5760x1440
HP - 4800x1200

All 3 have a color LCD screen, all have 6 seperate ink cartridges, and for the most part all have pretty similar costs on ink.

When considering water-proofing and fading, Epson is completely water-proof, Canon color inks are waterproof (the black is water soluble, you can wait a few months after printing the picture, lick your finger and spread the black all over), and HP is very water resistant (basically not completely waterproof, but won't completely run all over the place, either...).

Hopefully this gets you going in a little better direction.

Epson is not good because have one head. Every time when you buy color for epson you buy only color not a head. When you buy for HP you get color and head in one piece .

Not true, my Epson has a new head for every colour. Epson has some great all in one's with pretty decent photo quality.
