Alright, I am thinking ahead and I am thinking when I get my new computer I will need some anti virus ect. and I am trying to figure out wether I want to go with free software or something else?

Well if I was going with free software I would go:

Firewall:ZoneAlarm Free Firewall.
AntiVirus:AVG Free.
Ad-aware:I was thinking XoftSpy and Ad-Aware.

But since the new system I am getting will be pretty high end I am willing to get paid software if people can assure me that it will work better then all that ^^^^ up there^^^.

I am told the new Norton isnt as intrucive, is this true? and could anyone explain what norton covers? does it do all Firewall, AntiVirus, and Ad-Aware? or just Virus protection?

For Anti-Virus software i would go for Avast!
I have used AVG and IMO have found Avast! to be better

I rest my case

You rest what!? You havne't prooved anything!

I would recoment AVG, it's very easy to use, and it takes no time at all to start up. I have tried Avast and I found the interface difficult to navigate around. :)

Norton is an anti virus and a firewall, but it's a resource hog and will bog down your computer.

But what about the new one... Norton 360, I remember being told that it isnt as annoying and stuff.

in order of importance, your new machine needs to have

1) ccleaner -free
2) directory opus - worth every penny
3) firefox - free
4) thunderbird - free
5) diskeeper 10 - old version is free, new version is worth the $
6) nero - free with a LOT of dvd burners
7) pidgin - free
8) internet download manager - free demo version
9) k-lite codec pack - free
10) mediaportal - free

anti-virus/anti-spamware didn't make the list

i not only DONT insist on it, but i discourage it

i'd rather have to reinstall windows 1 or 2 times a year than have background scanners/sweepers bogging down my computer, and slowing down my internet

and in the time i've been using firefox, i've yet to get a single virus from simply browsing the web

BitDefender is one of the best anti-virus programs and is cheap at only $25. Virus Bulletin, a impartial anti virus software reviewer, gave Bitdefender the VB 100% logo.
(VB 100% logo is awarded to anti–virus products that detect all current “in the wild” viruses during both on–demand and on–access scanning in Virus Bulletin’s comparative tests.)

dont forget to install spyware guard and spyware blaster, they are both free and excellent software that will do you justice, o ya AVG is the best free virus protection software so good luck
