Hello i have a spare gaming PC. I gave to my brother, its got a XFX 8600gts xxx Edition, Antec 900 case, Asus a8n-sli premium Mobo, 2gb ram 4x 512mb sticks , 200gb HDD, dvd burner, five 120mm LED light fans, one 200mm fan, AMD 64x2 4200+ dual core OVERCLOCKED and on mohaa i get 90fps avg with the 8600gts and with a Radeon 9550 AGP i get 120fps avg. So i think its my PSU; im using a 550w. If i get like a 750w do you think i will get a lot more fps on my games? because a XFX 8600gts xxx edition is 100x better then a radeon 9550 AGP card so that is the problem right? Because i don't want to spend money if thats not the problem (i think its all my led fans) :P :P :P :P :P :cool: :cool:

with that computer anything above 400W is completely unnecessary, because of the low-power consuming parts used.

i wouldnt say hardware had anything to do with your low FPS, are the settings different? also, are you running vista, whereas you WERE running XP with the 9550? you have to say what differences there were between the rigs.

well the 9550 rig was a p4 3.2ghz single core, windows XP pro and the 8600gts is a dual core and Windows xp pro . now it realy realy seems like PSU i have so much led fans and lights plus remeber the 8600gts need extra power cord doesnt run off mobo so >.< and im sorry i meant to say for the 8600gts rig its a 500w psu not 550w sorry and on the newegg PSU calculator its right on 500w and on newegg it doesn't add up led fans light etc ? so im pretty sure its PSU ?

hmm i still doubt it. those PSU calculators assume the worst stress load and then exaggerate it just to be safe.

oh and fans usually dont matter to the psu, they draw about .15A the whole time and 12V tops so their power usage is too small to matter. (and led's take almost no power whatsoever)

if your video card doesn't have enough power then you lose performance because lack of power remeber i have everything overclocked 6 fans led and one 200mm so i don't think a 500W and handle it without losing performance well i will get a new PSU and update the news :}

Yup, a lacking PSU that doesn't have a 6pin when needed will make the card not start at all or downclock and lose performance due to lack of power.

wait no 6pin for the video card? i dont understand...

but assuming you DO have the 6pin connected, the fans, as i've stated will not make a difference. also, if the computer was power-starved, you would notice system instability as soon as the system was stressed, resulting in lag or shutdowns.

a nice way to tell if your computer is power-hungry is simply to change the power supply out with another. not too hard and it doesnt exactly matter what kind it just has to be a little better then the current 1. i suggest just using the one in YOUR rig, it really shouldnt take more then 20 minutes to find out if this was your problem...
