what ram do I need?

If I have a HP Pavilion 520n with 512mb of sdram (256x2), what ram should I buy to speed up the pc? I know nothing about ram other than size, and i'd like to get 2gb if possible. Or whatever would be good to make the pc faster. Its not a gaming pc, just for general use (word, internet, pics, music, etc)
 
You can't add ram If im thinking of the pc I think Im thinking of.

The max ram allowed by that mobo is 512mb.
 
If what hpi said is correct, then no. I'll look it up though...

EDIT: Yup, hpi is right. Your system uses PC133 type SDRAM... You won't be able to upgrade :(

Better off with a whole new computer anyways. DDR2 is probably cheaper than SD these days...

Its not actually my computer, its a friends computer that was running really slow. I cleaned it up and it runs a lot better but i was still hoping I could upgrade the ram. He can't really afford a new computer.

Well if it's just being used for basic stuff a new computer doesn't have to cost much. 600$ or less can build a really nice basic computer if he can work or do something to earn that little amount of money.

Older pc's like those and all are never worth the upgrade if it's even upgradeable.
