What Should I Build Now?

Well,

I'm not sure where my normal holiday scroogey-ness went but I was planning to build a machine for a family member for xmas and they just got a laptop so I was gonna do something else when my pops was telling me bout the hard times a family friend was going through--

Young family that have 2 handicap children, one with mild cerebral palsy, and the other has some learning disabilities, the parents both work but, like alot of us struggle to make ends meet and have added challenge of children who need a bit of extra care.

I then heard that the kids didn't have a computer because the parents budget is just so tight and had to use a slow, crappy, old laptop with a tiny screen---so the answer became obvious.

I am finishing up a few upgrades on my x48 build, adding some learning software and games and delivering to them for xmas--this weekend!

Ohh--and we're giving them a new Westinghouse 1080p 42" tv so the kids can see their games and 'homework' really well.

I feel like Ty freakin' Pennington!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

On another note--my i7 build, being a demo, was taken from me for a customer!!:(

...

So, I have a new dilemma...

What do I build next?

Another core2

core2 quad

another i7?

?

Thats really awesome of you to do that for that family, I cant imagine having to go through all that they have had to go through!

Just dont start running your neighborhood with a bullhorn and acting like a nincumpoop and no one will compare you with Ty Pennington!

...oops..

That's awesome of you!

Anyway... I say make a Phenom 9950 rig!

Or you could try and make an Opteron desktop. :P That'd be cool. :D

Nevermind that! Get yourself an Intel Xeon 2.4GHz Dunnington with 12MB cache and 6 cores!

gosh you're the nicest person ever. congrats on that. you could always wait a little bit and try one of the new amds that are coming out. that would be pretty sweet.

That sounds like a really good idea. I wish I had the same holiday spirit you do!

You are REALLY going to make that family's Christmas this year dude, congrats. On a side note, I'd wait to see how the new AMD processors are in benchies and reviews before you decide. Good things come to those who wait ;).

You are a noble man for helping were help was needed.

I did something similar...a lifelong friend of my wife and her husband both got really sick this year and money is very tight for them also. Their two daughters were not going to have much for a Christmas if any. Their heater for the house broke and they were wearing jackets and had the oven on to keep warm in the house. We gave them 1500 Euros to get back on their feet and have a nice Christmas.

I asked my wife to get me only one thing for Christmas, a Coolermaster V8, and I think it will be a great Christmas, one of the best ever. It makes you feel really good helping people:)

As for the build...waiting for the new AMD treats might be something to consider...maybe make a sticky about the build and the benchmarks:) You know there will be a million questions soon.

I may do a new phenomII build just for you guys as a demo too! We still have 1 of 4 phenomII's left here.
