So im going to build a computer and i have some old computer parts i want to use. One of them is a hard drive. so heres are my questions. one im going to get a new harddrive thats 80 to 120gb and the one i have now is around 17 or 18 gb so i was wondering if i should put windows on the old one and use the other one for all my other files and stuff. if thats the case i already have windows 98 on the old one along with some other stuff but im buying xp to use with the new computer so how would i go about getting everything off the old drive. Its an IDE drive so is that going to slow me down at all since its old. Or is it a better idea to just partition the new drive and then later install the old drive wip it and use it for other stuff not the OS. thanks

you can take the files off of the old drive, if you must, and my suggestion would be to partition windows to the old one, because yes, it is much slower than the one you are going to buy (more likely than not). it wont slow you down, but writing anything to the smaller drive or installing games to it will take a considerbly longer time. or, yes: you can just use the new drive alone, with xp on it. saves a lot of complication and headaches. you can get a relatively large hdd for cheap, so you dont have to skimp on that. i would say go for around 160 gig even. no more than 90 bucks.
