What Should I Do?

I am going to be upgrading my ram soon and my videocard if my parents will let me.

Now i heard that ATI is better at AA and AF and i usually use that in games. Now what does ATI have over Nvidia in these departments and what would be better for the games i play ATI or NVIDIA.

I play CS, DOD, FEAR, BF2, Himan blood money, Farcry and some other games.

Now i can play most of them maxed but my 7600GT seems to like to lag in the games like go from 50 down to 20 FPS ing games for a few secons and then it goes back up.

Now what card will be able to make that go away. Lets just say the budget is around $200-250 but perferably cheaper. And i need a PCIE card.

The 7900GT is right at the top of that price range, I'd say go with it. They say that the 7900GTs run at so low voltages that it won't overclock much, but when you volt mod it up to the 7900GTX's voltage, you can overclock them a good bit.

So are there any cards that are cheaper and any in the ati range. And is it true about ati being able to use hdr aa and af at the same time while nvidia cant cause i seem to be able to use them but it lags alot some times in games.

ATi is most definitely the king when it comes to IQ. Not only that, nVIDIA drivers suck the big one. I agree with the recommendation to look at the X1900 lineup.

Wait for the X1950 to be released if you want an X1900, the 256 mb X1900XT should be in your price range. Otherwise get a 7900GT.

You know benchmarks mean diddly right? Unless of course you need a phaletic extension and you like to hang out with the little kiddies over at Mad Onion.

Uh... no. Really benchmarks mean pretty much everything. There have been cards in the past where specs have looked good but they very much flopped.
